One of the best tuna in 2013

I got a text yesterday about this tuna. 60lbs for 1/4? I guess total weight is more than 300 lbs.
Too big to sell in a week. But I ordered and was right. Great condition.

See this cutting edge. It gets mature in a few days.

Higher Midlife Fitness Linked to Lower All-Cause Dementia Risk

Individuals with higher midlife cardiorespiratory fitness levels are significantly less likely to develop all-cause dementia later in life, according to research published in the Feb. 5 issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine.

Laura F. DeFina, MD, of The Cooper Institute in Dallas, and colleagues conducted a prospective, observational cohort study involving 19,458 community-dwelling, nonelderly adults who had taken a baseline fitness test between 1971 and 2009. The authors sought to examine the correlation between midlife cardiorespiratory fitness levels and dementia later in life.

During 125,700 person-years of Medicare follow-up, the researchers identified 1,659 cases of incident all-cause dementia. Participants in the highest fitness level quintile had a significantly lower risk of all-cause dementia compared with those in the lowest fitness quintile, after multivariable adjustment (hazard ratio, 0.64). Higher fitness levels were also associated with a lower risk of all-cause dementia with and without previous stroke (hazard ratio, 0.74 for both).

"In this cohort of generally healthy, community-dwelling persons having preventive health evaluations, we saw an association between midlife fitness levels measured with treadmill testing and lower risk for dementia in later life independent of other cardiovascular risk factors," the authors write. "The association seemed to be present with or without intervening cerebrovascular events, suggesting that the effect of midlife fitness levels on the prevention of dementia in later life may have both vascular and nonvascular mechanisms."

This part is chewy but easy to eat after grilled.

This one was really good.
It is nature made, means the quality is not same all the time.
It is really bad sometimes.

Fish delivery and more

Slow business? It’s everywhere in restaurants business now. That’s means good. You can get tables quick. Your food comes like fast food. You can get better services. You might get something free. But I am not sure for weekend. We were crazy busy last weekend after slow weekdays.

I have good big eye tuna. Uni is no problem. All other Japanese fish are fine. I just need more customers to eat them.

Too Much Coffee in Pregnancy Tied to Smaller, Later Newborns, Study Says
The coffee or other caffeinated beverages a woman drinks during her pregnancy might up the odds for a low birth weight newborn or an extended pregnancy, a new study says.

The researchers included data on nearly 60,000 Norwegian women.

"As the risk for having a low birth weight baby was associated with caffeine consumption, pregnant women might be counseled to reduce their caffeine intake during pregnancy as much as possible," said lead researcher Dr. Verena Sengpiel, an obstetrician/gynecologist at the Sahlgrenska Academy of Sahlgrenska University in Goteborg, Sweden.

She believes the findings should also spur a re-evaluation of current recommendations from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, which advises that a pregnant woman's caffeine intake not exceed two cups of coffee per day.

However, because the study was observational in nature, it can't establish a cause-and-effect relationship between caffeine and low birth weight, Sengpiel stressed. "We cannot say from our data whether caffeine is the specific substance responsible for the fetus being at greater risk of [becoming a] low birth weight infant, nor did we study if these babies actually had special health problems during the neonatal period," Sengpiel said.

The report was published online Feb. 18 in the journal BMC Medicine.

In the study, Sengpiel's team accounted for all sources of caffeine, including coffee, tea, sodas and food including cocoa (such as is found in desserts and chocolate), for almost 60,000 pregnancies tracked by the Norwegian Institute of Public Health.

They found that while caffeine was not linked to premature birth, caffeine from all sources was tied to a higher risk for reduced birth weight.

For example, if an infant's weight is expected to be 7 pounds 15 ounces, every 100 milligrams of caffeine consumed by its mother a day reduced a newborn's weight by almost an ounce, the researchers reported.

According to the Mayo Clinic, the average cup of American-style brewed coffee contains between 95 and 200 milligrams (mg) of caffeine.

Moreover, every 100 mg of caffeine consumed per day increased the length of pregnancy by five hours. And when the caffeine came from coffee (as opposed to other sources) the length of pregnancy was extended eight extra hours, the study authors found.

Given this finding, it is likely that it is not only the caffeine, but something else in coffee that is acting to extend pregnancy, the researchers added.

Dr. Jennifer Wu, an obstetrician/gynecologist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, said, "Other studies have indicated that caffeine can affect fetal weight, so this is in accord with findings of other studies."

Why caffeine might cause this effect is unclear, she said.

"We do know that caffeine crosses the placenta and the baby is not able to metabolize it very well, [so] it may affect some of the factors associated with growth," Wu theorized.

She advised that women limit the amount of caffeine they consume during pregnancy. The World Health Organization says 300 mg a day, but in the United States the recommended amount is 200 mg a day, she added.

Wu noted that is the amount of caffeine in two small cups of coffee, not a "Starbucks size coffee." There is less caffeine in a cup of tea, or a piece of chocolate, which has about 35 mg of caffeine, she said.

Fish delivery and more

What a great start of September business! I have great tuna and uni. I made Sliced toro and uni with wasabi pickles. So yummy!  A customer ordered 2 times. Negitoro-Don is also a good choice. This is wild caught and excellent. Kinme-Dai is coming tomorrow this week. The season change is good for fish. Yes, it is autumn and fish taste gets better and better. Shrimp price is going up and up again. It is not only far, raised shrimp but wild caught Ama-Ebi. I need to raise the price of that. I have no idea when the price is going down. And I feel very negative in the future. We have to enjoy the life now.

 Closed Information

I will not close the restaurant for a while. No vacation at all? Maybe. Bu if I go back to Hawaii, might close a couple of days.

Short bursts of exercise at home good for the heart

Short bursts of exercise, such as raking the lawn and climbing the stairs, are an excellent way of warding off health problems such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes, the Daily Mirror and many global media outlets reported.

The news is based on the results of a cross-sectional study which suggested that even less than 10 minutes of moderate or vigorous activity, such as climbing stairs, ‘count’ and may be as beneficial as longer periods of exercise.

This useful and well-conducted study measured the physical activity of more than 6,000 adults, in addition to measuring various health markers such as blood fats, blood sugar and blood pressure, that are known to be risk factors for chronic conditions including diabetes and heart disease.

The study found that performing moderate or vigorous activity of any duration – either short bursts of less than 10 minutes or for longer – was associated with improved measurements of several cardiovascular risk factors.

The study suggests that even people who do not have time to go to the gym or an exercise class can get many of the health benefits of exercise from adopting an ‘active’ lifestyle.

While the study cannot directly prove cause and effect, it would suggest that any moderate or vigorous exercise you can fit in during the course of a day, benefits your health.

This cross-sectional study aimed to determine whether short bursts of physical activity were associated with a decreased risk of metabolic syndrome.

Metabolic syndrome is a term used to describe a combination of related risk factors for chronic conditions such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes – these factors include high waist circumference, blood fats, blood sugar and blood pressure.

The researchers also looked at some additional biological markers known to be risk factors for cardiovascular disease.

They looked at whether there were any differences in risk factors for short bursts of activity versus more prolonged bursts.

Cross-sectional studies have a inherent limitation as they cannot prove causation (a direct cause and effect), they can only highlight possible associations.

So in this case, the researchers cannot conclude that it is the short bursts of activity directly affecting the biological markers measured.

Also, because participants aren’t followed over time we don’t know what came first, so we don’t know.

Cleaning house, mowing, everything is exercise for me. I do them by myself. I understand even 5 minutes walking with dog might help my health condition.
